Best Regards to Parents

Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.”

One of the ten commandments given by God to the nation of Israel, this is the only one that carries a promise with it. Long life and the implied good life are nice benefits for doing something which should come naturally.

Principle: Respect your parents and pay attention to what they taught you about work.

In day-to-day home life, parents model and teach some valuable things about work. Following their example and teaching will honor them and result in long life and a pleasant attitude about work. Godly parents teach their children about authorities in this life such as a teacher at school, a boss at work or a board of directors, or stockholders who need to be respected also.

Learning to honor one’s parents will carry over into respecting and obeying one’s boss.

Your ultimate boss is the Lord. Serve Him faithfully on the job and He will bless you!

Discussion:

1. How was the parental teaching in your life?

2. On a 1-10 scale how was your parental teaching?

3. If you had it to do over, what would you change?
