Genesis 41:56-57 “When the famine had spread over the whole country, Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe throughout Egypt. And all the world came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe everywhere.”
One can only imagine what kind of warehouse system and organizational skills it took to manage this mammoth task. In this case it took Joseph, a truly great leader, administrator and strategic planner to save the people from the ravages of famine.
Principle: Build sufficient reserves for recessionary times that will come.
Adequate reserves enable a business to survive an extended slow time, thrive in a recession or depression, and over-ride short term cash flow. Build reserves during the “good” years.
Discussion:
1. When there is more “month” left than money, what do you go without?
2. What must you buy to survive?
3. What is dangerous about borrowing to make up for too little reserves?
