Genesis 1:1, 1:31-2:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth … God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning — the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.”
God works. He is creative. His work is good. He does huge projects, but his small projects are wonderful too. He agrees with that.
Principle: Our creative God is the perfect role model for work.
God made something out of nothing, bringing order out of chaos. God made man in his own image. Work and the ability to create is part of that image, perfect creation, perfect satisfaction. Work that is well done is admirable and satisfying to the one who does the work as well as to others.
Man has built many large things out of all the materials that God provided, but none of them compared to what the creator God did. A group of students was asked to list what they thought were the wonders of the world. The list included the Great Pyramids, the Taj Mahal, the Panama Canal, the Empire State Building, St Peter’s Basilica, and the Great Wall of China. Certainly, all of these are great accomplishments and long lasting.
While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one quiet student had not turned in her paper. She asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The girl replied, “Yes, a little. I could not quite make up my mind because there are so many. I think the Seven Wonders of the World are to see, to taste, to touch, to hear – she hesitated a little, and then added, to feel, to laugh and to love.” The room was so silent you could have heard a pin drop.
We tend to overlook human characteristics as simple and ordinary. They are truly wondrous and are also a part of God’s wondrous creation. They are priceless gifts from above. Look up, look around and appreciate God’s creativity.
