Workplace Excellence

Exodus 39:42-43 “The Israelites had done all the work just as the LORD had commanded Moses. Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the LORD had commanded. So Moses blessed them.”

Principle: Work done God’s way meets His standard and brings satisfaction to the worker.

God recognizes and rewards work well-done. Such work brings Him honor and brings the worker blessing. That blessing might not be financial, and it might not come right away. But it will come. The rest of Exodus 39 fleshes this out for us.

  • Excellence and “finishing well” is biblical.  “…all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting was completed… ” Exodus 39:32
  • Employees, do your work well, for God’s sake. “… the work of a skillful workman.” Exodus 39:3
  • Employers, leadership includes quality assurance and acknowledging the good work of others. “So Moses blessed them.” Exodus 39:43
  • Parents, make workplace excellence a family matter. ” The Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; and He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge and in all craftsmanship …. ” Exodus 35:30, 31

There are always opportunities to display workplace excellence. This is a step above just doing one’s job, and it will require emotional investment from workers. If you’re the boss, be sure to model this behavior if you hope to see it in your employees.

Discussion:

1. Describe excellent work you have observed.

2. How can a person attain excellence in your line of work?

3. What is the standard measure of excellence in your line of work?

4. When a well-done task is recognized by others, how can we “point the needle” to God?
