Luke 5:1-3 “One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around Him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then He sat down and taught the people from the boat.”

Jesus went where the people were, the fish market. He talked and they listened. He used Peter’s boat for a pulpit. He referred to working tools as examples in His talk.

Principle:Marketplace ministry includes people, workplace, business tools and Jesus.

I noticed a sign at the exit of a church parking lot that said, “You are now entering the mission field.” How true!

The church equips, trains, encourages, motivates, strategizes, heals, commissions, and sends out – but the work is done in the workplace.

All the prospects for healing and forgiveness are at work or at the mall or enjoying leisure somewhere.

The boat and the nets are dual purpose – ministry and productivity. They are the tools of work and are usable for Kingdom purposes if surrendered to Jesus. He used whatever was around to make a spiritual point.

Like Jesus, you’ve got to speak up – say something. Silence is not a good communicator of the Good News. I am familiar with the saying of Francis of Assisi, “… and if necessary use words.” It is necessary to use words.

Discussion:

1. Marketplace ministry – how’s it working out for you?

2. What are some work tools that could lead to spiritual discussion with your fellow employees?

3. What has happened to you when you spoke up for Jesus in the workplace?

4. Were there measurable results?

5. What do you expect out of a clear witness for Jesus Christ?
