1 Timothy 6:15 “… God will bring about in His own time – God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.”

Paul describes the greatness of God. Paul has some advantages over most of us. He’s smart and he’s good with words. He memorized the Old Testament and wrote much of the New Testament. He had been to heaven and back. He got beat up for God and rather than run away he drew closer to Him. He lived in a time when kings and Caesars had real power.

Principle:No one votes to make God King. He will always be King. He will never be elected out of office or ever complete His term.

With the 2008 election we had an opportunity to think about democracy and how it works. God is undemocratic. His will is not determined by the will of the people or by votes. He rules by decree. What He says is law.

There is no appeal, no supreme court, no debate, and no referendum. All the things that normally apply to government do not apply to Him. God is the eternal King, not president. Everything is under His control. He determines who lives and who dies. He decides if it rains or not. He sets the limits to human existence and the consequences for disobedience. We do not have any say in the matter. No one argues with a king who is the King of everything.

Furthermore, everything belongs to Him. He does not have to prove ownership in a court of law. What He decides to do with His possessions, including us, is entirely up to Him. He holds everyone under His domain accountable for their treatment and stewardship of His resources.

There is only one King, and He is not on the ballot.
