2 Chronicles 32:20-21 “King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz cried out in prayer to heaven about this. And the LORD sent an angel, who annihilated all the fighting men and the commanders and officers in the camp of the Assyrian king. So he withdrew to his own land in disgrace. And when he went into the temple of his god, some of his sons, his own flesh and blood, cut him down with the sword.”
Hezekiah had done all he could. In addition to restoring the temple and destroying idols he had helped the priests begin worship again. He had done so by using some of his own funds. However, six years into his reign he was facing a formidable enemy who had already conquered neighboring Israel. As army commander he made weapons, built up his armed forces and re-enforced the city walls. Then he called for Isaiah, his trusted friend and counselor to pray with him about the desperate situation.
Principle: In desperate situations, do what you can and find a Godly advisor to pray with you.
In a business or personal crisis, do what you can do what you can to remedy the situation.
Encourage others to pray with you. Go to your contemporary spiritual advisors, elders, pastor, wife, others with spiritual wisdom and discernment. Seek God with all your heart. Pray, fast, wait on God, consider the advice that you have been given. Compare it and discuss the alternatives with some of the same advisors.
Watch God work.
Discussion:
1. Who do you go to in crisis situations to pray with? Why them?
2. Describe a God-rescue that you have experienced after intense prayer.
3. What steps could you take to uncover friends of big faith and wise counsel who could be with you in your next desperate circumstance? For whom can you be that person?
