1 Thessalonians 5:10-11 “He (Jesus Christ) died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
The loving words of encouragement are based on Christ’s death on our behalf. Sins are forgiven and an eternal relationship with Him is settled. That ought to inspire anyone who needs courage, strength, or hope.
Principle: Building others up with good, truthful news is a great motivator.
When there is good news like a big sale or good turn of events in the company, take the opportunity to tell everyone. Get the good news out. A prime function of a leader is to keep hope alive in the company.
Freely praise employees for peak performance. If done under difficult circumstances, emphasize the degree of difficulty. This will motivate others to accomplish the impossible. When they are not motivated it’s impossible to accomplish the easy.
Billy Graham said, “Courage is contagious. When a brave person takes a stand, the spines of others are stiffened.”
Discussion:
1. What kind of words of encouragement drove you to press on?
2. Which is more natural for you – a positive word or words of correction?
3. How does the encouragement idea work play out in your family?
