1 Chronicles 4:38-40 “The men listed above by name were leaders of their clans. Their families increased greatly, and they went to the outskirts of Gedor to the east of the valley in search of pasture for their flocks. They found rich, good pasture, and the land was spacious, peaceful and quiet.”
The three full pages of names that preceded these verses demonstrate that there are many different leadership styles and techniques on the path to success.
Principle: There are many paths to successful leadership.
Leadership styles and techniques vary. The following quotes are from three cross-sections of successful businesspeople describing what they believe to be the major factor contributing to their success.
“I always tried to make people who work for me feel special.”
“It was important for me to understand the past, but I showed my greatest value to the company by making tough decisions about the future.”
“I’m a magnet for attracting talent.”
“My curiosity and excitement about trying new things rubbed off on others.”
“I made a habit of praising everyone for their hard work and assuring them that growth is ahead.”
“My leadership strength is to constantly re-invent myself.”
Being a successful leader takes time and energy. It requires vision, persistence, the courage to make the tough decisions, and the strength to correct mistakes and learn from them.
Discussion:
1. Name a successful person in your field who you know personally.
2. Other than “hard work” or “luck” to what would he or she attribute their success?
3. Would this work for you? Why or why not?
