Next Level

Matthew 4:18-20 “As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers; Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were anglers. ‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’ At once they left their nets and followed Him.”

Peter and Andrew were well acquainted with Jesus. They heard His preaching. They followed Jesus to His baptism. They talked to Him about His temptation in the wilderness and were with him when they heard the news of the death of John the Baptist.

Principle: Trust God to take you to the next level in what you are already good at.

Here is a career upgrade open to all:

Requirements: be willing to receive advanced on-the-job training and accept difficult assignments.

Present skills: everyone is welcome and all are qualified.

Benefits: complete provision, life fulfillment, power provided and intimate relationship with the “CEO” guaranteed.

Peter and Andrew responded immediately to Jesus’ clear call because there was a sense of urgency about it.

It was an extension of what they were doing. It required considerable hands-on training and a “sold-out” attitude. Their success and long-term impact were enormous. The world was reached in their lifetime. What a legacy!

Peter and Andrew became skilled fishers of men – evangelists. Evangelism is a call to every follower of Christ, regardless of income source, job title, spiritual gift or life circumstance. You do not have to quit your job to do evangelism. It is a universal opportunity and is the expectation for Christians in the marketplace.

There is still a sense of urgency. People are dying all around us without Christ as Savior.

Discussion:

1. Describe the moment in your life when you got the call to follow Jesus.

2. In what ways do you take the opportunity at work to tell people about Christ?

3. What are the hindrances for you in “marketplace evangelism”?
