Numbers 23:19 “’God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?’”
God’s unchanging nature was a comfort to Israel. They would enjoy the protection and provision of God and make it to the Promised Land. God doesn’t change His mind. What He says, He does.
Principle: God’s immutability is not to be confused with immobility. He acts on behalf of His people.
Elections come and go. Change blows in like a storm, for better or worse. The words of the old hymn should encourage us as followers of Jesus Christ.
“Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not.
As Thou hast been, Thou forever wilt be.
Great is Thy Faithfulness.”
On a global scale, God controls the seasons, food, and water supply without which there would be no produce. The under-the-ground resources of oil and gas are also in God’s hands.
- Thank God for food and energy (Jeremiah 5:24).
- The sun rose and set today at a definite, predictable time. We can depend on it because God scheduled it (Psalm 50:1).
- The nations of the world are under the sovereignty of a God who cares about mankind’s destiny. He oversees the nations and the rulers (Isaiah 40:15, 17).
- The future is not determined by our rulers but by the Ruler, the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. (1 Timothy 6:14).
- On a micro level, God sees to it that you have work, nourishment, and enjoyment (Ecclesiastes 2:24)
- He sees to it that you have clothing and shelter. (Matthew 6:33).
- He will bring trouble to those who act with evil intentions towards you (Job 4:8-9).
- God will not overlook the wicked behavior of those in government or commerce who unfairly take your resources from you (Ezekiel 22:12, 13).
From the simple to the complex, from global to personal God is aware. He cares and is in control.
